Builders FirstSource: announced that its CEO, Chad Crow, will retire. After 20 years of service with the company, Crow says he’s decided that it’s time to “spend more time with my family and on other personal interests.” He plans to retire after assisting the company’s board of directors in hiring a replacement, after which he will continue in a consulting capacity. “Until my replacement is secured, it is my intention to ensure that our team builds on our success as we move through 2020,” Crow said.
PGT Innovations (PGTI): appointed Mike Wothe as president of Western Window Systems. Effective December 2, 2019, Wothe is responsible for leading all aspects of the business, including strategy, sales and marketing, operations and profit and loss statements. Wothe succeeds Scott Gates, who left the company on January 31, 2020, to form an entrepreneurial clothing company with charitable aspirations.
Gates and Wothe will work together over the next two months to help ensure a smooth transition the company reports. Prior to joining PGTI, Wothe was president at Cardinal LG Company.
Board members Susan Davis and Meredith Wise Mendes: were listed among WomenInc. magazine’s 2019 Most Influential Corporate Directors. Davis retired from Johnson Controls, where she served as global chief human resources officer. Mendes is executive director and chief operating officer for Jenner and Block LLP.
“We are inspired by these accomplished executives, their distinguished careers and the corporations that demonstrate inclusive board composition,” said Catrina Young, executive vice president and chief communications officer for WomenInc.
Industry Organizations
Fenestration Canada: announced that Al Jaugelis now serves as its full-time technical director. Jaugelis engages with Fenestration Canada members and supports the industry by sharing his technical expertise, skill, and insights, officials said. He is also expected to serve as an asset to the executive director and board of directors, providing information and expertise on federal and provincial industry regulations. Prior to joining Fenestration Canada, Jaugelis was a senior fenestration specialist at RDH Building Science.
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC): has hired Michelle Blackston as senior director of communications and marketing. Blackston oversees the organization’s communications initiatives, including internal, marketing, public relations and media outreach. In her new role, she also leads educational programs, membership development and engagement.
Sales and Marketing
Kevin Chandler: joined Prysm Marketing Inc. as its new sales team member for the Northeast region, covering the New England and New York areas. Prior to Prysm, Chandler served as a sales manager in digital marketing and print solutions, and worked in outside sales for the past seven years. He is a graduate of Worcester State University and a longtime resident of Massachusetts.
Tim Case: recently joined Quantum Windows and Doors as the company’s new architectural sales representative for Southern California. Case works alongside Craig Yaple, regional territory manager. A native of Southern California, Case resides in San Diego and has over 20 years of experience in the premium door and window sector.
Obituaries
Industry Mourns the Loss of Carmody
John Charles Carmody, a longtime collaborator of the door and window industries, has passed away. Carmody passed December 9 at the age of 72, after a long illness, a published obituary says. He was part of the building industry for nearly 50 years, his obituary states, starting his career as an architect with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, then becoming a student, researcher, mentor, teacher and professor for the College of Design at the University of Minnesota.
“We are devastated,” said Kerry Haglund, owner of Haglund Design Inc. and executive director for Efficient Windows Collaborative. “He was my mentor, former boss and a very good friend.”
Stephen Selkowitz, affiliate for the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, said he worked with Carmody for over 30 years. “It’s not only a personal loss for many of us but a loss to the industry as well,” Selkowitz added.
Promotions
Roto Frank of America Inc.: announced the promotion of Chris Griffin to design engineering manager and the hire of Robert Christie as senior design engineer in Griffin’s place. Griffin started in Roto’s research and design department nearly 20 years ago. Christie assumes the role of senior design engineer in the company’s Chester, Conn., location, while Shan Jia becomes the product administrator in Mississauga, Ontario.
Linetec: promoted Phil Hanke from the role of buyer to senior buyer. Hanke now reports directly to vice president of finance Chris Menard. Working with colleagues in Linetec’s purchasing department and suppliers from across the U.S., he applies continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles to support company-wide procurement needs and initiatives, officials said.
Hanke joined Linetec in 2013, working in the architectural coatings and packaging departments. The following year, he was hired as a purchasing assistant and was later promoted to buyer. He also led several successful continuous improvement projects to reduce waste, increase savings and enhance customer value, according to the company.
