Sure you can just replace the bearing, but why would you? If you are going to do all the labor required to replace the bearing you might as well replace the clutch while your doing it. But, as long as you are going that far … you might want to consider replacing the clutch disc and pressure plate.
Auto Clutch release bearing: how much does this product cost? The price of car parts within the auto Clutch release bearing category ranges from £7 to £33, depending on the vehicle type, manufacturer, and product specifications.
The release bearing failure starts with a whole lot of noise when you step on the clutch. If the bearing were to lock up very rapid wear would occur on the pressure plate fingers every time you stepped on the clutch. The pressure plate fingers would break and you would be unable to shift gears.
A noisy clutch release bearing might last a hundred more miles, or it might not, but you shouldn't be willing to take that risk. The longer you drive with a faulty clutch bearing, the worse the damage to the whole clutch system will be.
I'd expect at least 80,000 miles, and have had cars with 120,000 plus on the original bearing. Regular adjustment is essential; but I too have noticed that newer bearings don't seem to last as well as the originals.
When the release bearing becomes defective, you will usually first notice the noises that occur when you operate the clutch pedal. A defective release bearing causes friction, which is why the noises usually sound scratchy or like grinding.
Release bearings with a PTFE bush must not be greased. Before installing the clutch, it is advisable to check the release shaft and its bearings and to lubricate them if necessary. Release bearings with a plastic bush must not be greased. Release bearings with a metal bush must be greased before installation.
On manual transmission vehicles, a throw-out bearing is used. It's a part of the clutch disengagement or release mechanism that occurs when the driver depresses the clutch pedal. As a result, it's also known as a release bearing.
Excess of grease on the bearing spreads from the centre of the friction disc to the linings. Contamination of the linings by grease causes a significant reduction in the friction coefficient between the linings and the pressure plate. The low friction coefficient causes slipping.
Replacing the throwout bearing can be tricky because you'll have to remove the flywheel bell housing first. If you're not confident doing that, it's best to leave the task to a licensed mechanic.
The clutch release bearing or thrust bearing may get damaged due to the following reasons. If it is aged.Due to the driver's habit of always putting a foot on the clutch pedal while driving.Due to the worn-out clutch friction disc or clutch plate.
With the gearbox still in neutral and the engine running, depress the clutch pedal only to the end of the release bearing free play. This will bring the release bearing into contact with the cover assembly diaphragm fingers, but will not disengage the clutch.
The clutch thrust bearing, also called the release or throw-out bearing, is a vital component of your car's clutch system. Positioned on the clutch housing, it slides along a hollow shaft.
On manual transmission vehicles, a throw-out bearing is used. It's a part of the clutch disengagement or release mechanism that occurs when the driver depresses the clutch pedal. As a result, it's also known as a release bearing.
Or do you have to have the whole thing replaced? It is definitely possible to replace just the bearing(s) in an automatic transmission. However, to replace ALL of the thrust bearings, you will need to dismantle pretty much the whole transmission.
